Today is the first day of summer and the kick-off of The Scholastic Summer Challenge: Read 11 Books Sweepstakes! According to the 4^th Edition of the Kids and Family Reading Report, parents think their kids should read 11 books over the summer. We’ve been pinning our picks for 11 books on our Pinterest page, and now we want you to share the 11 books you want in your family beach bag this summer!

Hurricane Sandy Book Relief!! @Scholastic

To assist schools and libraries that suffered damage during Hurricane Sandy, Scholastic pledged ONE MILLION BOOKS through Book Grants.

Starting this week, more than 100 schools from NY and NJ that applied for grants are picking up anywhere from 500 to 10,000 books each for their school and classroom libraries to replace lost books.

Scholastic is working with the nonprofit K.I.D.S., Inc. (Kids In Distressed Situations, Inc.) and three of its partner organizations to manage the distributions – so it’s a real for-profit/non-profit collaboration. 

Within the first week of pick-ups at three warehouse locations, Scholastic will have distributed 391,300 books!

Read Everyday Live a Better Life with Taylor Swift

Singer and songwriter Taylor Swift came by Scholastic headquarters Wednesday to share her love of books and reading with over 1.4 million viewers in a live webcast.
